I guess many of us also have day jobs or punt out our skills as SEO professionals on a consultancy fee basis, but surely the reason, the key goal for most SEO professionals who know what they are doing and have been doing it for some time is to create websites which generate revenue and more importantly profit! Lots of it!! Well maybe not everyone’s goal, but its certainly mine.

Well folks I’ll be honest, I am scared, I am very scared. Its CPA 2.0!! The Rise of the Cashback sites!!!! Just look at the staggering growth in brand name search volume of fairly recently establish cashback website, Quidco.

I was doing some browsing round the forums and blogs today, feeling pretty good about life, that I was helping my clients to survive in this gloomy financial period we are having in the UK, that I have two working legs to be walking around on and no major ailments when I spotted yet more rants about how all SEO people are nothing more than dodgy used car salesman. Am I Upset? I should coacoa!

While we are all feeling the very unsettling effects of the credit crunch, financial analysts are predicting that the UK will enter economic recession within the next few months.

The definition of economic recession is for there to be negative or zero growth in GDP (Gross Domestic Product), so basically job losses (because of falling orders), cutbacks on expenditure and an increase of cost savings measures throughout struggling companies.

Whilst we are not suggesting for one second that a UK recession is a good thing, it may be good for SEO companies. Here’s why…

As promised, here is the first in a series of SEO videos aimed at TOTAL BEGINNERS to the lovely world of Search Engine Optimisation. We expect that the quality of these videos will get better as we get used to being in front of the lens and our video editing skills improve from their current child-like levels! Well, you can’t be good at everything I guess

Stick with us, some far more advanced videos coming. We might even be getting a rant or two from Allan Stewart, commenting on some forthcoming events, other well known SEO’s blogs, and rantings, gambling SEO, recruitment SEO and perhaps some stuff on CPM and monetizing your website. FireflySEO are doing a series of instructional videos all about basic SEO, aimed at complete newbies and amateur webmasters who would ike to know how to do it for themselves.

We will be publishing this series of SEO videos on YouTube over the following months (desperately trying to fit them into our shedule!) for anyone who wants to view them. The series covers all basic SEO like keyphrase analysis, server analysis and correction, link analysis and link building plus some more technical areas such as URL re-writing, duplicate content analysis and page code density.

I was having a delve through Google Trends this morning, looking at what the world’s surfers were out there searching for… No surprise that after a huge mistake by Alicia Sacramone in the Olympics, there would be a lot of searches on the subject, but not for the phrases like ‘US team fails spectacularly’ or ‘Alicia Sacramone fall’ but ‘ Alcia Sacramone is Hot ‘ for some reason! We love SEO here at Firefly, and in the spirit of this we have decided that everyone… and we mean EVERYONE in the office should have the God-given right to get in on the SEO action! With this in mind (and the fact that we really need to get some sleep sometimes!) we have decided to train the office Cat (goes by the name of Caspar, destroyer of kitty chunks, killer of mice and many others) to do a little link building for us while we have a nap.
