Converting Search Engine Optimisation to Buying Customers

Friday, October 12th, 2007

Recently listened to a somewhat interesting show on webmasterradio.fm hosted by the well known Shoemoney again basically talking all about converting Traffic in to purchasing customers. Its my beleif that a lot of people don’t actually pay enough attention to this type of thing all all acutally. In practice I have improved graphics or calls to action on web sites and seen registraions go up by 100%. It really is so important. Landing pages for example can be used very effectivelly in Search Arbotrage type campaigns with the combination of ad platform networks such as Azoogle adds MIVA etc. Quite an interesting area of search, people need to spend a lot more time looking at this.

Is search engine optimisation killing web design?

Friday, October 12th, 2007

I’ve been in discussions with my business partner about what to do about our new website and the general trends in the search engine optimisation industry. Seems to me (and you would have to be blind not to see it) that it’s all about social networks at the moment.. so much infact that if you search for anything in Gooooogle nowadays you get a zillion blog results and references to YouTube etc and not a lot else. Twitter? Is it all a fantastic waste of time?!

Friday, October 12th, 2007

I got sent a link to twitter a few days ago, and was introduced to the wonderful world of interactive timewasting. If you’ve never seen this site, then have a look at http://www.twitter.com and you will see what I mean.

Basically, the idea of Twitter is that you post your thoughts as they occur to you and they not only appear in almost real-time, but an archive of thoughts appear in your profile. You can even, if you would want to do this, get an interactive map of the world at www.twittervision.com and see who is thinking what anywhere on the twitter globosphere.

I was just actually thinking.. and maybe I should not post this on Twitter… that if Twitter had been available several years ago then all this grief over Al Queda could have been avoided. (more…)

Search Engine Optimisation - A DIY Guide!

Friday, October 12th, 2007

I’ve put together an online quick DIY guide for everyone here, so that anyone who is interested (and let’s face it, why wouldn’t you be!) can see the principles of basic website Search Engine Optimisation. This is of course not the full lowdown… it takes years of blood, sweat and tears to learn all this stuff, so putting up everything is going to take a lot more than one post! (more…)

Geographical Search Engine Optimisation

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

I’ve been thinking recently about the trends worldwide for Geographical Search Engine Optimisation and it seems to me that there could be a lot done to improve websites that are strongly targetted towards certain geographical regions such as: (more…)

Noscript Spam?

Monday, October 8th, 2007

Now I know it’s an area that people have written about many times before. But what’s the deal with noscript tags. Google purports use of them for anything other than a description of content hidden by scripting languages as SPAM. I have got to be honest through, I’ve use noscript tags on many sites in the past and as long as you keep them contextual and short I’ve never, touch wood, had any problems. Can anyone else give me their experiences of this. Personally I have had some very good results.

Shoemoney SEO

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

Hum interesting stuff of late happening on the shoemoney blog and related site. Looks like Matt Cutts and Matthew Charles Mullenweg going to be on the well known (amongst SEO people anyhow) Net Income Pod Cast on Webmaster Radio in the coming days. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for that one, bound to be interesting. Props to all involved and thanks Matthew for creating such a slick piece of software. Other things, could the rumours be true, is Matt Cutts really keeping half an eye to the job market? Gonna be some revelations me thinks.

Search Engine Optimisation: The competitive edge.

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

SEO or Search Engine Optimisation is a strange and elusive beast, driven by a thirst for knowledge an un-silencing need to be competitive. With us we have the Black Hat defenders who challenge the seemingly good intentions of the search engine giants and the While hat wizards who are there to carve a path to search engine nirvana. So its all black and white then is it! Well I have got to say it, I don’t think so! (more…)

SEO Web Designer

Friday, September 28th, 2007

As a web designer and SEO for many years now, it still staggers me a bit at the amount of confusion there is in the buying public as to what the remit of an SEO webdesign company actually is, and what the end result should be from having a freshly designed site that is good for search engines built by a professional. Ad:Tech 2007 Review

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Well just got back from Ad:Tech trade show yesterday. Good show. Lots of people there, lots of companies we all know and love were there, Green Light, Big Mouth Media, Cheeze, Web Optimiser and Latitude, the big 5 as I like to call them. In addition to this it was great to see some up and coming SEO companies there, namely Just Searching. Yes I know, before you ask, FireflySEO should also have been exhibiting there, but afraid to say we failed to get things organised in time so managed only as visitors this year. For those of you we met, if was great to meet you, had some really interesting conversations and can say that will be doing some real business with lots of you there. (more…)
