Search Engine Optimisation UK
Way back in 2003 when we launched our shiny new company, it seemed that very few of our clients had heard of Search Engine Optimisation or the benefits to be obtained by ‘following the rules’ laid down by the likes of Google, Yahoo! and the other search engines. Looking at strategies at the time to gain search engine results, it seemed that everyone was using automated tools to gather reciprocal links from endless directory pages, and all of the frowned upon black hat techniques were being used by webmasters to promote their clients websites, such as background coloured text stuffed with keywords, doorway pages, hugely overstuffed metatags and a complete lack of the overall search engine optimization picture.
The scene now just 5 years later is totally different. The sole focus for our customers now seems now to be Search Engine Optimization, and at last the whole world seems to have woken upto the fact that there is little point having a website unless you can actually find it using a search engine, it can be read using ANY browser (not just Internet Explorer [insert version number here...]) and it is bringing in useful traffic and enquiries.
The Search Engine Optimisation market now in the UK is thriving, with many companies started just a few years ago being bought out by global media companies as part of their overall business strategies, after all, online advertising (of which Search Engine Optimisation is of course a huge part) now competes with traditional advertising methods as far as income goes, and has newspaper, magazine and TV / radio beat hands down on for flexibility and regionality of targetting those all important consumers. Search Engine Optimization has now become such a big market in the UK that some of our customers are now cutting down their offline marketing to put the saved expenditure towards SEO of their websites instead!
So what is the future of Search Engine Optimisation in the UK? Well as the saying goes ‘the only way is up’… As the global reliance in online communications increases, technology advances at an ever increasing pace and the worldwide acceptance of online methods of communicating and shopping continues, Search Engine Optimisation will continue to be the most important thing any business can use as a long term strategy to capture their fare share of the market. With the introduction of regional search engines, precise targetting of consumers is now possible so that small geographical areas can be targetted by SEO companies keen to promote their customers websites.
