SEO Web Designer
As a web designer and SEO for many years now, it still staggers me a bit at the amount of confusion there is in the buying public as to what the remit of an SEO webdesign company actually is, and what the end result should be from having a freshly designed site that is good for search engines built by a professional.
Forget for a moment the continual initial struggle you always get when the customers ideas veer off towards Flash and other such ‘SEO unfriendly’ types of design… what I usually get asked as a second question is: ‘if you are telling me I can’t have this and that to be Search Engine Friendly, will the site be just written for the search engines and look rubbish?’
The answer is obviously a very big ‘NO!’… Search engine friendly design is all about optimising for search engines and people, because there is little point in getting thousands of visits a day if your visitors see one page for a few seconds and then leave because they don’t like what they see!
Compromises do have to be made sometimes (’no you can’t have that big splash page with no text as your index page if you want to rank this century!’), but there is no reason why a search engine friendly website cannot be as good, if not better looking than any Flash / Photoshop creation… and as it will (if done correctly) view on ALL browsers it will probably lose you less potential customers!
