You might have noticed a few changes recently. Just thought I would jot them all down and give you all an overview on what I have changed and why.
- Removed calendar from sidebar. Basically this was removed because I couldn’t really see too much of a use for it. It doesn’t actually drive any traffic to the site because I use the no-index tag on all those pages to avoid duplicate content. So basically I just thought it was wasting space, so I removed it.
- Removed blogrush widget. This plugin widget was quite a big disappointment; no hold that, the biggest waste of time ever. In my experience this widget just used up space and didn’t actually deliver any traffic. Less the 0.01% infact.
- Changed Share this for the Sociable plugin by Joost De Valk. Joost recently took this plugin over, html validated it and changed a few features. Its now brilliant. Very slick and to my eye represents the ultimate in terms of social bookmark plugin for wordpress.
- Added the Related posts plugin. This plugin adds html a href links based on tags to the bottom of each post in your wordpress blog. This helps older posts get indexed more and builds up your internal linking structure. Great plugin.
- Added Google AdSense. Well I just thought I’d put that down the side bar for now to see If it generates me enough money to pay for the server this blog is hosted on. Would be nice.
- Added icon links to all major subscription RSS services. In a similar style to searchengineland I though this was a good idea and will hopefully build up the userbase.
- Improved our telephone and free seo audit calls to action. Just tidied them up a bit, made them render better in different browsers and a bit more eye catching.
- Tarted us the style sheets a bit. Yep, well I just tweeked them a bit here and there. Page view and conversions per user are up. Just shows you the design is as important as seo.
Hope this will be useful to some of you.
